Praised as “One of the most talented singers to ever call Savannah home” by the Savannah Morning News, Nicholas Giovanni (Gio) Yaquinto is a singer, songwriter, and guitar player based out of Atlanta, Georgia. He tours with the soul/ funk band ‘Edgewood Heavy,’ hosts the podcast ‘Gio’s Stream Shows’ uncovering new and established artists in an intimate discussion/ performance setting, hosts the Smith’s Olde Bar weekly open mic with the ‘Gio Trio,’ and performs as a solo act all around the region. His most recent release, “Smarter,” follows as the first single since the release of his debut EP “Origins of the Heart.” He is also a founding member of the multi- media company ‘The Mosaic Group.’
The son of a Grammy nominated producer, Gio has had a rich background in many types of music. He has performed professionally in styles ranging from opera, art song, singer- songwriter, musical theatre, barbershop, jazz, and more. He has also found great success as a guitar and voice teacher, teaching voice at Florida State University for two years. He worked professionally as an opera singer for close to a decade, performing around the world with respected companies such as The Atlanta Opera, Seagle Music Colony in New York, The Mozarteum with Prague Summer Nights Festival in Austria & The Czech Republic, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Opera Saratoga, The Savannah Voice Festival, and many more. He has also been recognized with awards at competitions such as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Casa Italia Vocal Competition, The Classical Singer Competition, and the Concours National de Chant de Marseilles in France. After receiving his Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Florida State University, Gio Yaquinto began a journey towards sharing his original music with the world. He wrote songs and honed his craft as a musician while finding success in the world of opera, but in 2019 finally put together a team to create his debut EP ‘Origins of the Heart.’ The sound of his debut release are a synthesis of his years of training in different musical styles, and result in a soulful, funky, happy, southern style of alternative rock that is genuine and unique.
